William Eggleston . Mystery of the Ordinary
From January 28 to May 4, 2023, C/O Berlin presents in the exhibition William Eggleston . Mystery of the Ordinary for the first time previously unknown works in dialogue with already known series.
How do we perceive the world and what would it be without color?
Color was long frowned upon as a form of artistic expression in photography. Photographs in black and white were preferred. Nevertheless, from the 1960s on, more and more photographers discovered the new creative possibilities of color photography. However, no one used color film as innovatively as the American William Eggleston, whose work influenced entire generations of photographers. Eggleston recognized early on the unique power and special compositional possibilities of capturing entire pictorial worlds through color nuances.
No one else succeeded in such a way in combining everyday motifs with moments of mystery: Color became both an element and a way to penetrate and examine reality. Made possible by Art Mentor Foundation Lucerne
