What is the Berlin Impact Programme?

The Berlin Impact Programme is part of the Sustainable Meetings Berlin platform, which specialises in sustainable event planning. It helps organisers plan activities that generate a positive impact – for their Meetings and Events and beyond.

The aim is to create medium- and long-term outcomes from Meetings and Events that deliver social value for organisers, local stakeholders and Berlin’s residents.

Especially in times of global challenges – such as the climate crisis and growing social inequality – business events can and should act as a catalyst for positive change.

Harness the power of your event – for sustainable impact and genuine value

With the Berlin Impact Programme, event planners can design conferences and events that, in addition to their overall impact:

    • support their event objectives through targeted impact activities,
    • contribute to the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),
    • generate lasting benefits for the local community
    • and strategically engage new target groups, partners and funding opportunities.

Benefits of the Berlin Impact Programme

We’re proud to support impact projects in Berlin! By planning targeted impact projects, your event can create added value in multiple ways: on the one hand, you can reinforce your organisation’s qualitative goals and the objectives of your event in a more structured way. On the other hand, you’ll leave a footprint in the destination that clearly demonstrates the direct and lasting benefits of events for the city and its communities.

Effective Meetings and Events – how it works

A central component of the Berlin Impact Programme is the collaboration between event organisers and local organisations and initiatives in Berlin. Through cooperative projects, event organisers and local partners analyse needs, develop project ideas and plan activities that take place during the event – and have an impact beyond it.

What might a project look like in practice?

    • Short- to medium-term impact: this could include a Social Day with local volunteering, a fundraising campaign in collaboration with Berlin-based NGOs, or a public training session offered as part of a conference.
    • Medium- to long-term impact: a strategic partnership with lasting social value – a tailored project that complements your goals with measurable results. School outreach programmes, patient engagement days, or research projects – the possibilities are many.

What matters is this: impact activities should be communicated, and their social value measured. This way, they directly support your sustainability strategy and enhance your reputation.

We help event planners design customised impact activities for truly sustainable meetings and events.

    FAQ Berlin Impact Programme

Why is Berlin the ideal destination for your impact project?

Berlin is creative, diverse, open-minded and renowned as a city of freedom. As a centre of science, cultural treasures and a vibrant start-up hub, the German capital is also home to a wide range of communities, sustainable projects and initiatives. Platforms such as Vostel (for planning social days), the donation platform betterplace or the Leave No One Behind initiative are just a few inspiring examples.

Impact or legacy – what’s the difference?

Reporting usually focuses on short-term results (output, outcome) after an event has taken place. Our goal, however, is to support the medium- and long-term positive effects of meetings & events (impact). Ideally, through targeted evaluation and carefully planned follow-up activities, your event will leave a lasting, positive “legacy”.

    • are interested in creating small or large added-value projects through their meetings and events but have no prior experience.
    • are already implementing impact or legacy activities and now wish to roll them out in Berlin.
