New Year’s Eve Concert

  • Highlights
Siegmund in Richard Wagner’s Walküre is a signature role for Jonas Kaufmann, who presents the tragic hero as passionate, radiant and combative in equal measure.

To celebrate the end of the year, Kirill Petrenko, acclaimed as an interpreter of Wagner at the Bayreuth Festival and elsewhere, conducts the first act of the opera.

Its love triangle confronts us with emotional extremes in its depiction of blood revenge, incest and the ultimate happiness of love. The programme opens with excerpts from Tannhäuser that encapsulate the festivity, fervour and shimmering eroticism of the plot.
