Sustainable BESTIVAL - Best practice for sustainable events
Sustainability and a great event like BESTIVAL are not at odds with each other. BESTIVAL 2022 already demonstrated that sustainable event planning, taking into account the three pillars of sustainability, is possible. For BESTIVAL 2023, we aimed to raise the bar even higher. A paramount objective for this year was securing ISO 20121 certification for sustainable event management, spanning both planning and execution. We are delighted to declare that we have already crossed a significant milestone by achieving certified planning for the event!

We are elated to share our remarkable achievement! BESTIVAL marks a groundbreaking milestone as the first B2B festival of its kind to secure ISO 20121 certification for sustainable event planning.
This certification is not only a great honour, but also an incentive for us to expand our horizons in the field of sustainability. The message is clear: it works! And as pioneers in sustainable event planning, we are committed to demonstrating this time and time again! Of course, we didn't tread this path alone! Our sustainable planning tools
To transform our vision and mission into a tangible reality, we require the requisite tools for implementation. The following four building blocks are the essential basis of our planning:
Sustainable Event Guidelines
The Sustainable Event Guidelines Berlin serve as the structural framework for our sustainable event planning. The Sustainable Event Guidelines cover 13 fields of action that are relevant for event organization and include practical measures with a Berlin connection for sustainable event planning. This makes the guidelines an ideal anchor for keeping track of everything.
Mission statement
Our mission statement outlines the goals we are passionately pursuing with BESTIVAL. We aim to inspire the world for Berlin while also adhering to the sustainability criteria we have set for ourselves through Sustainable Meetings Berlin and the ISO certification.
Code of Conduct
Naturally, an event like BESTIVAL cannot be executed in isolation. To realize our goals, a collaborative effort from all stakeholders is indispensable. To facilitate this, we have developed the Code of Conduct - a codex that all participants (agencies, hotels, catering, locations, and more) have signed to support us in achieving these objectives and to recognize them as their own.
The Code of Conduct serves as a guide for our actions, demeanor, and behavior within the team as well as towards our partners and customers. This includes fostering a supportive team environment, implementing climate-friendly practices, taking responsibility for our, at times, global supply and value chains, and ensuring the absolute equality of all individuals.
Sustainability Concept
Based on the three components: "Sustainable Event Guideline," "Mission Statement," and the "Code of Conduct," we have developed our sustainability concept for BESTIVAL 2023. Within this concept, we delineate specific measures aimed at rendering our event more ecologically sound, socially responsible, and economically sustainable.
