Berlin, 30 July 2024 With immediate effect, visitBerlin is bundling all sustainability initiatives under the new umbrella "Sustainable Berlin" and thus offering sustainability certification for Berlin companies in the tourism and event industry.

Sabine Wendt, Managing Director of visitBerlin: "Supporting the Berlin tourism and convention business in the transformation process is a matter close to visitBerlin's heart. With the Sustainable Berlin initiative, we want to make the tourism and event industry fit for the future and sustainable. At the same time, we are making an important contribution to quality tourism in the capital, a fundamental building block on the way to city-friendly tourism."

The "Sustainable Berlin" initiative replaces the previous various certifications for the tourism and convention business: "Sustainable Meetings Berlin" (MICE) and "Sustainable Tourism Berlin" (leisure tourism) become "Sustainable Berlin". The new initiative offers timetable workshops, consulting days and audits of the innovative sustainability management tool.

For the certifications, visitBerlin works together with the audit agencies trias consulting and Deloitte. The sustainability program is funded by the Senate Department for Economics, Energy and Public Enterprises and by the Berlin Senate's Restart Program.

For about a year now, visitBerlin has had its own department dedicated to sustainability and corporate social responsibility. In addition to advising tourism and MICE companies in Berlin on sustainability issues, this also includes the company's own sustainability management.

The experts also coordinate, among other things, Berlin's annual participation in the Global Destination Sustainability Movement (GDS Movement) ranking, which compares Berlin with other destinations around the world. The topic of further training and networking of partners in the city is just as central. visitBerlin invites you to a partner network meeting on 13 August and will start the "Sustainability" series as part of the e-learning platform TourismusHub in September.
