Colonial and anti-colonial thinking. From the Enlightenment to the 20th Century
The 5th edition of the series "Historical Judgment" deals with colonial and anti-colonial thinking in German history. How did Kant, Herder and Hegel position themselves on colonialism? What contemporary criticism of the German colonies was there? How did the confrontation with colonialism under National Socialism look like? And what was the difference between anti-colonialism in the GDR and the critical voices in the Federal Republic before 1989?
This will be discussed at the symposium by interdisciplinary historians, philosophers, political scientists and sociologists.
