How were the Sustainable Event Guidelines developed?

To develop the Sustainable Event Guidelines, the Sustainable Berlin team at visitBerlin drew inspiration from the sustainable event planning guide by the Umweltbundesamt (UBA), among others. A key priority was ensuring the content was tailored specifically to the conditions and opportunities in Berlin. 


What do the Sustainable Event Guidelines include? 

The Sustainable Event Guidelines are a practical planning tool for sustainable event organisation. They outline 13 areas of action where sustainable measures can be implemented – from travel to and around Berlin, choosing a sustainable venue and accommodation, to waste reduction and event follow-up. 

We ensured that all recommended actions are specifically adapted to the Berlin context.

Since 2013, she has passionately brought together hotels, venues, agencies and caterers to make Berlin’s events sector more sustainable. With expertise and enthusiasm, she supports event organisers on their journey towards environmentally conscious formats. Her Master’s degree, completed in 2017, underlines one central theme: for Kyra, sustainability is more than just a trend – it’s a personal mission. Berlin is the stage on which she makes change happen.
