art:berlin - Nischt wie raus nach Wannsee: the Alsen villa colony

Incentive

Around 1890, numerous wealthy Berliners moved with their children in a removal van to the summer house at Wannsee in the Alsen colony. Among them were numerous business bosses such as Arnhold, Stinnes, Langenscheidt and Fassbender, but also the publishers Langenscheidt and Springer as well as the famous painter Liebermann and the doctor Sauerbruch. Until 1933, Christian and Jewish families celebrated lavish and imaginative parties together in the Sailor's House on Wannsee. During the Third Reich, many Jewish residents were expelled and Nazi organisations took over the empty villas. On this guided tour you will learn how things continued here from 1945 until today.
