Richard Wagner and the Nationalization of Feeling

  • Highlights
Richard Wagner experienced the 19th century in very different positions - as an author, as a revolutionary, as a salaried court musician, exile, bankrupt, protégé of wealthy patrons and a king, theater reformer, founder of festivals, composer.

The exhibition looks at Wagner's productions of concrete emotions and places the history of his conception back into the context of the 19th century.
