Symposium: Functionalism and Bauhaus (Functionalism II)
The symposium "Functionalism and Bauhaus" at the "bauhaus reuse" for the "Triennale of Modernism 2019" in Berlin, as well as the corresponding symposium at the National Gallery in Prague last June, are part of the festival "re:bauhaus". The symposia deal with the development and social identification with modernity and its reception in Central Europe.
With a view to the significance of the Bauhaus in the Weimar Republic compared to the perception of functionalist modernism using the example of Czechoslovakia, the symposium in Berlin looks at the development from the heyday of functionalism in Czechoslovakia in the interwar period, through the relations with the Bauhaus in Germany and the handling of the heritage in the post-war period in the countries of Central Europe and in both parts of Germany to the identification and reception today.
The transnational festival re:bauhaus - modern emancipation, education, exchange in Central Europe, is initiated by the Goethe-Institut in cooperation with bauhaus reuse, curatorial collaborative, National Gallery Prague, PLATO Ostrava and zukunftsgeraeusche, supported by the German Federal Agency for Civic Education, Bundesstiftung Baukultur and Deutsch-Tschechischer Zukunftsfonds. The Triennial of Modernity is funded by the Stiftung Deutsche Klassenlotterie Berlin. The symposium is curated by zukunftsgeraeusche in cooperation with curatorial collaborative.
Lectures are offered exclusively in German.
