UBA at the 2nd Conference "Cities as Places of Change in Transport"
Space is scarce in major German cities. This also applies to public streets and squares. Today, these are mainly claimed by passenger cars. But a rethinking has begun in many places. Under the title "Public space is worth more" the Agora Verkehrswende invites to the 2nd conference "Cities as Places of Change in Transport".
UBA will be there to present its vision of a "city for tomorrow". The distribution battle in major German cities is in full swing. Historically, private cars have emerged victorious, but in more and more cities people are pushing into public transport and onto their bicycles. Fewer cars are the key to creating more scope for attractive public spaces, better cycle paths, more reliable public transport, but also more green space in the city. Parking space management and intelligent alternatives can help to get people out of their cars. But in many places there is resistance to the reduction of public parking spaces at the roadside - a privilege that does not want to be given up so easily. 2nd Agora Verkehrswende city conference is dedicated to this topic under the title "Public space is worth more". It will discuss why public space needs to be redistributed, what instruments are available for it, what cities have already achieved and what challenges still lie ahead.
The Federal Environment Agency will present its vision of a "City for Tomorrow" at the conference, which will serve as a basis for discussion with the municipalities, organised by the Agora Verkehrswende, the German Association of Cities and Towns, and the German Association of Towns and Municipalities.
