Is there a new housing shortage?
In Germany there are over 41 million apartments, which are on average 91 square meters and have 4.4 rooms. The living space per head is an average of 46.5 square meters. Behind these comfortable sounding meanings, however, is a large range of local housing market situations - including an increasing lack of affordable housing.
A few years ago it was assumed that the "housing problem" was largely solved and the cities were built. Today there is hardly any urban policy discussion in the growing cities without the themes of building land, new building numbers and rent development. On the "green table" are a variety of housing policy strategies, programs, measures, the implementation of which, however, hardly keeps pace with the needs. Against this background, the seminar deals with the possibilities for municipal action and the need for affordable housing market segments.
Accordingly, the theme is drawn from the current challenges in the housing market through (innovative) concepts, measures and instruments to the question of the framework conditions of housing market-related action.
