Der 20. Berliner Archäologentag findet am 11. Oktober 2017 auf dem Gelände der Internationalen Gartenausstellung in Marzahn statt.
The 20th Berlin Archaeological Day focuses on the latest archaeological activities in Marzahn. The International Garden Exhibition IGA 2017, adjacent to the Gardens of the World, shows the Archaeological Garden on the southern side of the Kienberg from 13 April to 15 October, illustrating the results of archaeological excavations in Marzahn and the surrounding area in a modern implementation. The excavations carried out in preparation for the IGA are still to be seen in the special exhibition "FOUNDATIONS - Excavations on the IGA Terrain", which will take place on the 5th of November in the Marzahn-Hellersdorf district museum, which will be held at the end of the archaeological day be acknowledged.
Even the Marzahner Bockwindmühle can boast a new archaeological highlight: from a former colliery, a special grinding process for the extraction of fine grinding material, the Bodenstein and Lauferstein were recovered from the debris fillings of cellars of Klosterstraße 65/67 in Berlin-Mitte. Here a tobacco wholesaler was based, so that the colling was probably used in the production of snuff. The mill put the stones back into their context and took the Kollergang again into operation, this time for grain.
The excavations and finds to be presented touch the Roman Empire, the Middle Ages and the Modern Age. They lead to Friedrichshain, Mitte, Neukölln and Spandau. Rare topics are also mentioned, such as the recent discovery of the villagers and the origin and effect of an ancient dolmen, a modern park design. The fact that parks are the subject of garden archaeological excavations is highlighted in a paper.
Die Veranstaltung ist öffentlich und kann kostenfrei besucht werden.
