The European Cultural Heritage Summit will take place from 18-24 June
2018 in Berlin, Germany. This Summit, with the motto “Sharing Heritage –
Sharing Values”, has been recognised by the European Union as one of
the key public events of the European Year of Cultural Heritage (EYCH)
and will be supported by the EU’s Creative Europe programme.
The European Cultural Heritage Summit will be co-hosted by Europa
Nostra, the Stiftung Preußischer Kulturbesitz (Prussian Cultural
Heritage Foundation, SPK) and the German Cultural Heritage Committee
(DNK), acting as national coordinator of the EYCH in Germany.
The Summit will engage and mobilise a wide range of stakeholders, public
and private, for an ambitious European Cultural Heritage Agenda. The
Summit will be attended by highest representatives of EU Institutions,
Member States and civil society organisations from all over Europe.
The core events will be held by the Summit’s hosts on 21-22 June.
Additional events will be organised by European and German partner
organisations on 18-20 June and/or 23-24 June.
The week-long Summit will comprise main events organised by the three
hosts and a large number of events organised and hosted by supporters
and partners. Events will take place at different venues in Berlin and
Potsdam, almost all events are public. The full program is currently in
preparation, more events will be updated soon.
Heritage Excellence Fair
The Heritage Excellence Fair will take place on June 21 at the Allianz Forum Berlin. Up to 30 winners of the EU Heritage Prize/Europe-Nostra Prize 2018 will present and discuss their outstanding achievements. The winners will receive their prizes at the European Heritage Awards Ceremony on 22 June.
Open Heritage Night
The first main event of the European Cultural Heritage Summit "Sharing Heritage - Sharing Values" will take place on the evening of June 21: the "Open Heritage Night" in the colonnade courtyard on the Museum Island. The Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation (SPK) organizes the event.
Policy debate on Europe and Cultural Heritage
The German Cultural Heritage Committee (DNK) and Europa Nostra are holding a policy debate at the European Cultural Heritage Summit "Sharing Heritage - Sharing Values". The current state of the cultural heritage and its challenges for our society will be discussed on 22 June. In high-level forum discussions, key stakeholders and political decision-makers discuss the role of cultural heritage and how it can help shape the Europe of the future.
European Heritage Awards Ceremony at the Berlin Congress Center
On the evening of 22 June, the winners of the Heritage Excellence Fair will be awarded with the 2018 EU Prize for Cultural Heritage/Europe Nostra. Maestro Plácido Domingo, President of Europa Nostra, and Tibor Navracsics, European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport, will award the prizes. The President of Germany, Dr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier, will welcome in his position as patron of the European Cultural Heritage Year in Germany.
