Restart Berlin: 5 tips for restarting the 2021 event season
Summary of the blog post
For a long time, the pandemic has held us back. But now the Berlin event sector is flexing its muscles for a restart. In our blog, we have put together 5 tips for a restart in Germany’s capital city – and for a successful event season.
One year ago the event sector around the world ground to halt. Now, the prospect of soon starting up again has left us nothing short of euphoric. With the requisite hygiene guidelines and security measures, Germany’s meetings and conference capital can look forward to a successful event season! Here are our 5 key tips for Berlin’s ‘Restart 2021’.
1 – Plan B. Plan Berlin.
It is always good to have a Plan B. Crucially, in times like these, you have to react flexibly and work with partners ready to adapt when you need alternative solutions. Berlin is backing this Plan B – a plan for Berlin, with the city and its partners jointly providing the support to make responsible meetings, incentives, fairs, and congresses possible.
We are happy to help you plan and realise your Plan B. Contact us at convention@visitBerlin.de and vote directly for the Plan B you find most convincing: #PlanB

2 – Playing it safe: Hygiene guidelines
How many people can currently attend an event in person? Do they have to take a PCR test? What are the rules on social distancing? Do I have to register the event with the Berlin health authorities? – With the event sector restart, there are still some questions open about the present rules, measures, and hygiene requirements. You can find details on the current maximum number of participants at events in Berlin here, along with key issues in event planning and our FAQs.
Working together with visitBerlin and the city of Berlin, visitBerlin Convention Partner has also drafted and agreed a Hygiene Framework Concept – an important and helpful guideline for your next event in Berlin.
3 – Financial support: Funding for event planners

Berlin Congress Funds - Types of Funding
To support event planners in and after the months of the corona crisis and facilitate the restart of Berlin’s MICE sector, the federal state of Berlin has launched the Berlin Congress Fund. The financial support it provides is designed to encourage planners to hold events, conferences, meetings and congresses in Berlin’s conference hotels and locations.
The Berlin Congress Fund foresees funding of 25 euros for each in-person attendee and day, providing this is for a professional, industry or trade event with at least 50 guests from the sector, lasts (at least) four hours, and is held at an event location in Berlin subject to a fee. You can find the funding application here.
4 – Now even more sustainable: Sustainable Event Scorecard
Sustainability – now more important than ever. After the pandemic, the topic of sustainability has gained a new urgency. The Sustainable Event Scorecard offers event planners supplementary funding to the Berlin Congress Fund to support sustainable events across all areas of event management.
Along with details on the potential funding when meeting sustainability criteria, the Sustainable Event Scorecard offers a set of practical guidelines with useful advice on how to plan and hold green and environmentally-friendly events (available only in German).
5 – On-site partners: Berlin Meeting Guide
