Pretty cool! The BCO heads off through happening Prenzlauer Berg to find six unusual locations
An exceptional event starts with an exceptional location. To keep you up to date on the latest on the event map, the BCO team regularly head off through Berlin’s districts, exploring industrial and historical sites, and backyards big with the arts scene, to discover (new) venues for conventions, congresses and events. This time we set out for Prenzlauer Berg – and it was well worth it, as you can tell from our top 6 list for your next event.
1 Anomalia Art Club: typical Berlin
A large iron gate on a site just outside the S-Bahn circle line is waiting to usher you into a different world. Set between industrial and office complexes, the Anomalia Art Club fully lives up to its name, offering a multi-faceted location seemingly overflowing with potential. Just quintessentially Berlin. Once this site housed a paint shop for cars, but now it is a futuristic event location with an open hearth in the yard, Indian temple and tattoo studio. The halls host artists with temporary exhibitions and installations, and is home to a vegetarian restaurant. Other spreading spaces and outdoor areas switch between club space, concert hall and artistic venue, and are ideal for events or incentives. One thing is for certain – this is a location to blast away old borders.
2 Von Greifswald: The charm of industrial heritage off the beaten track
When we walked into the former rail goods yard at Greifswalder Straße, our BCO ‘event gauge’ jumped straight to ‘wow’! White brick walls, creaking wooden floors, steel girders and massive windows flooding all the rooms with light. Ideal for all kinds of events, Von Greifswald offers 1000 square metres of indoor space, with three times that outdoors. The atmosphere is unique – all the charm of an old industrial location, yet still intimate and cosy. Thanks to partition walls, generous partition doors, thick carpets, candelabras, vintage sofas, oil drum chairs, wooden tables and pews, almost any event format would be at home here. In the open kitchen, if needed, culinary delights can be freshly prepared. And the partially covered exterior space provides just the right kind of playground for summer events. In other words – a location for the best kinds of memories.
3 c13 Events: In the heart of the neighbourhood
Between Berlin’s popular pre-1945 housing and hip cafés, we stumbled on a very special event location. C13 is one of Berlin’s largest wooden-frame construction houses. Set right in the heart of the neighbourhood, C13 is a community of families, a place for living and working, and an event space. That original vision of c13 Events, a joint project by kreuz & kümmel UG and the Foundation Bildung.Werte.Leben., has created a new cultural centre. Here, event organisers can find 240 sq. metres in an attractive, light location, ideal for conferences, meetings or workshops with up to 170 participants. Directly next door, the kreuz & kümmel bistro provides all your event participants could desire in delicious homemade cuisine. After viewing c13, it was hard to tear ourselves away! A real home from home in the neighbourhood.
4 Pfefferwerk Berlin: A historical site for social projects
Around 170 years ago, Herr Pfeffer, a Berlin master brewer, opened one of the city’s first beer gardens on the site of today’s Pfefferwerk on Schönhauser Allee. Later on, the site first became a chocolate manufactory and then a bakery. In more modern times, it housed a car repair shop and a restaurant. Today, the site is home to the non-profit organisation Stadtkultur. As a voluntary youth welfare organisation, Stadtkultur’s many various projects include training young people in the event sector. The Pfefferwerk Events location in this heritage building offers a concert hall with a flexible stage and space for up to 199 guests, various seminar rooms and the PoolLounge, a party cellar in a historic setting ideal for evening events for up to 99 guests. And with your event in the Pfefferwerk, you are supporting tomorrow’s event managers. In our view, a perfect venue for MEET+CHANGE.
5 Stadtbad Oderberger – from historic baths to a bar
If your guests are keen on venues that tell a story, look no further than the old Oderberger historic baths, now a boutique hotel and event location on the GLS Campus Berlin. Even in the late twentieth century, with many old apartments not even equipped with showers, local residents came here to use the historic baths and pool. Today, the former men’s changing rooms are a conference room, and the women’s changing rooms have become a cosy bar area with an open fire. The historic pool hall can either be used as a stunning event location or a swimming pool. And thanks to a remarkable construction with hydraulic lifts, the historic pool hall can be changed over the course of one day into an event area taking 650 visitors – allowing your guests to sit in a space which earlier was just water! An event location really deserving the label ‘truly unusual’.
6 KulturBrauerei Berlin – days and dance:
Many Berlin residents only know the Soda or frannz clubs on the KulturBrauerei site as popular places to party. But where you can dance in Berlin, you can also meet and greet at your conference – with up to 4000 guests. With its six courtyards and 20 buildings, the KulturBrauerei site, once home to the Schultheiss brewery, is a conference location with a special history and a special capacity for events. The red brickwork facades of this industrial heritage site still recall the successful brewery located here in the nineteenth century. Today, through Palais Veranstaltungs GmbH, you can book your events in the refurbished old stables, the spreading “Schwankhalle” event hall or the old turbine hall – right in the heart of happening Prenzlauer Berg. And we all agree – this is a pretty cool location. Day or night.
